Whether you are a history buff or just have an interest in
the Middle East, there are many places to go. Depending on who
you ask, the area known as the Middle East will have different
boundaries. Whether you call it the Near East, Western Asia or
the Middle East, there are exciting and fun destinations to
experience.
You will want to make sure you do your homework before you
travel to any of these places (or others), but with a little
research and common sense, you can enjoy the beauty of these
countries in the Middle East without having to worry about
problems more than you would anywhere else in the world. For
many people, it's a life changing journey.
Israel
Israel, known as "The Holy Land" to some, is located on the
eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Middle East. It is
surrounded by Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. Officially
formed in 1947, Israel soon after faced aggression from her
neighbors. She survived, however. Today there
are still problems in Israel, but this hasn't stopped
people from traveling from all over the world to visit this
special place. With many ancient sites to see, there's something
for everyone in Israel.
Jordan
Jordan is surrounded by Syria to the north, Iraq to the
northeast, Saudi Arabia to the Southeast, and Israel (and the
West Bank) to the West. An ancient nation that has seen a lot
over the years, Jordan is a travel destination for many people
visiting the Middle East. As with most countries in the Middle
East, Jordan has tenuous relationships with her neighbors, but
with a rich cultural history and many sites to see, some
travelers do come here.
Lebanon
Located on the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, Lebanon
is surrounded by Syria to the Northeast, and Israel to the
south. While the country has a somewhat violent past - like many
other nations in the area - there are still many wonderful
things to see in this country. While it's not recommended as a
travel destination for most people, a particular type of world
traveler may find Lebanon a fascinating place to travel to and
experience first hand.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has come a long way over the years. It is one of
the richest nations in the region because of the oil found in
the country. Surrounded by many countries, it has played an
influential role over the years. While tourism isn't the largest
industry in the country, it does play a part, with people from
all over the world coming to visit. There are quite a few
miraculous things to see in the country. There is a lot of
desert, but there are other things to see as well.
Kuwait
A tiny nation (once invaded by Iraq under Saddam Hussein),
Kuwait plays a large role as a staging area and training place
for the US Military in the region. A rich nation, there are many
architectural achievements to see. While a trip to Kuwait might
not be for everyone, quite a few people travel here from around
the world. Kuwait welcomes them with open arms, sharing the
wealth of the nation with travelers from all over.
Middle East Awaits
There are other countries in the Middle East, of course, but
because of political and other reasons, some might not be the
best places to travel at the current time. That said, the region
is still a wonderful place on the planet, one that attracts many
people every year for one reason or another. If you are looking
to travel somewhere a little different, somewhere that has a
rich and detailed history going back thousands of years, the
Middle East is where it's at - no matter what you call it. While
Iraq, Iran, Syria and other places may not be the safest to
travel to on vacation, the region offers a wealth of things to
see and do.
